What is a Forest School?

A Forest School is where the classroom has no walls - nature is the teacher. Children learn by exploring, experimenting, and discovering the outdoors, building skills that go far beyond books and tests.

Every visit to the forest becomes a lesson in life itself: they grow in confidence, learn independence, develop respect, and cultivate a deep love for the natural world around them.

Key benefits of the Forest School model

The Forest School approach fosters independence, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving. It nurtures emotional well-being through hands-on learning in nature, while enhancing social skills, communication, and teamwork through collaborative outdoor activities.

Active and meaningful learning

Every experience in the forest allows children to explore and connect with subjects like science, art, and critical thinking, making learning both engaging and memorable.

Being in nature reduces stress, promotes relaxation, and naturally increases a child’s motivation and joy for learning.

Forest School in action

Students explore, observe, and experiment with the natural environment to understand real-world phenomena. Through play and inquiry, they practice cognitive, social, and emotional skills. Nature becomes their classroom, fostering purposeful, curious, and independent learning.

01
Exploration and survival

Our students build orientation, teamwork, and independence skills through hands-on exploration and camping activities.

They practice basic survival techniques, rope safety, and first aid, while learning to respect the natural environment—strengthening both their bodies and minds outdoors.

02
Biodiversity

Students observe the natural world scientifically. To date, we’ve identified over 80 species of plants and animals, fostering ecological awareness and respect for life.

Students also monitor water and biodiversity to understand the importance of conserving ecosystems and the environmental services they provide.

03
Waste Management

Students promote recycle, reuse materials, and reduce waste through the environmental committee.

Organic waste is used to create natural compost, while PRAE projects involve students and teachers in developing sustainable solutions for our school community.

04
Resource Management

Students learn to manage resources responsibly to maintain a sustainable educational environment.

Our modern infrastructure supports efficient water use, and our planting and harvesting activities help maintain an education system committed to environmental stewardship.

05
Environmental protection

We nurture love and respect for nature through direct experiences in the forest and at the San Rafael Dam.

Our goal is to raise awareness about the value of water, air, and ecosystems, empowering students to become active agents in the conservation of the planet and its biodiversity.

Key principles of Forest School

Learning takes place in direct contact with nature, where the environment serves as an educational resource. Activities foster curiosity, experimentation, and hands-on learning, while the approach emphasizes independence, confidence, and the holistic development of each student.
